Well it has been a busy year and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

Election Matters

With most Council meetings now postponed until after the election, members of all political parties are busy supporting their respective parliamentary candidates. The Labour Party candidate for the newly created constituency of Hammersmith and Chiswick is Andy Slaughter, a thoroughly good egg, in my (albeit biased) opinion. You may have seen him out talking to residents, about what a vote for Labour really means both locally and nationally, at street stalls on the High Road, at one of the Chiswick stations, schools, hustings or perhaps on your front door step.

A reminder that if you are attending a polling station on the 4 th of July to vote then you MUST bring photographic ID with you in order to be allowed to cast your vote; you can check what types of ID are accepted here .

Council Life

After a busy year as Chair of the Borough’s Licensing and General Purposes Committee, where the vast majority of the contested licensing applications which came to panel were from Chiswick, I have now moved into a Cabinet Assistant position working with Councillor Lily Bath, the Lead Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Health Integration, and once the election is over, I look forward to working on projects to improve services in this area across the Borough.

My Neighbourhood Grant this year went to Strand on the Green School to buy plants and equipment for their Community Garden and Forest School. I am always keen to support local community initiatives, if you have something in mind and would like advice and support about funding opportunities or ideas then please get in touch.

One of the main functions of a local Councillor is supporting residents. You may recently have seen figures published on the casework numbers undertaken by each of the councillors in the Borough, over the last year, and whilst the amount of casework undertaken by individual Councillors varies, contacting your local councillor to raise casework on your behalf is a really effective way of addressing any issues that you need help with from the Council. Once you raise any issues, your Councillor can then contact the relevant team within the Council to try to resolve any issues for you.

I am also lucky enough to be a trustee at two wonderful Chiswick based charities, and it would be remiss of me not to give them a mention here.

Chiswick House and Gardens is a wonderful place to visit, especially at this time of year, whether it is to walk your dog through the beautiful gardens, meet friends for a coffee in tranquil surroundings, explore the historic house or vibrant Kitchen Garden or attend one of the many events held throughout the year, this beautiful location has something for everyone. Visit their website here to find out what’s on, subscribe to their newsletter or to become a member, you won’t regret it!

Chiswick Pier what better place to spend a (hopefully) sunny Sunday afternoon than having fun down by the river. Come along and join us for the annual Party on the Pier on Sunday 21 st July, free boat trips, kids’ entertainment, a variety of food and drinks, river dipping with the Thames Explorer Trust and much more. For more details visit the website here.

If there are any issues with which I can be of help, or you would just like a chat, then you are welcome to contact me on amy.croft@hounslow.gov.uk or 07816 067890.

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
