Chiswick Homefields councillor John Todd reports back
March 5, 2024 Defective Paving - Like for like criteria The frequent use of a bucket of tar instead of replacing damaged paving blocks continues. We sought an explanation from Hounslow Council (LBH): We are writing regarding your enquiry addressed to Councillor Todd about utility companies reinstating their excavations with like for like materials in conservation areas. The companies are required to reinstate with like for like materials under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. Hounslow Highways inspect a random sample of between 20% to 30% of their reinstatements and substandard reinstalments are defected for remediation. Please let us know the locations in question and they will be inspected. Planning Reference 00567/17/P7: 17 Hartington Road W4 3TL Following their unsuccessful appeal to the Planning Inspectors, a fresh application for this house has been received by LBH. The additional houses proposed have now been deleted from the application Thames side grief Chiswick Mall had a drain pipe fracture which caused extended flooding and material inconvenience to a number of residents and pedestrians. Hounslow Highways are confident this has been resolved with the aid of CCTV inspection. The Resident association adjacent to Chiswick Pier are angry with LBH for not complying with its undertaking to remove the Japanese Knotweed and willow trees from the Thames embankment. Some remedial work was done in the past but the current position is that material damage had occurred to the embankment wall. Volunteers from the Old Chiswick Protection Society protect the Chiswick Eyot from tidal damage by using the abundance of willow whips to weave a framework placed on the edge of the Eyot. This yearly activity has materially protected the Eyot from further erosion. Regrettably access to the eyot is difficult because of the exceptional amount of water in this stretch of the Thames. The Mayor’s Community Award Harvinder Bahra and Jenny Figaro
Ward Councillors were asked to nominate recipients. I nominated Harvinder for her outstanding commitment to the Chiswick House and Gardens Trust Community and Learning programme Since the pandemic she has starting from scratch into an annual programme that engages with 3000 participants, 54 community groups and others. My colleague Cllr MacGregor nominated Jennifer. Jennifer helps Abundance, Dukes Meadows Trust, is seen gardening in the High Road and organising walks in Chiswick House too. All were most worthy recipients Department of Transport launches night flight consultation A consultation has been launched asking residents and businesses for views on continuing the existing night flight regime for three of the UK’s busiest airports. Starting from October 2025, the proposed regime would continue to limit the number of flights that take off and land at Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick between 11:30pm and 6am every day. The consultation comes with a recommendation of continuing the same quotas and limits on night flights, allowing the three noise-designated airports to continue their post-pandemic recovery and providing “the best balance for both businesses and residents”.
