Chiswick Book Festival going ahead but Area Forum postponed

Several events due to take place on the Chiswick area and over the coming week have been cancelled as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth.
Other organisers have made the decision to continue with their plans but to change the format in a tribute to the deceased Monarch.
The Chiswick Book Festival was just about to begin as the news broke, and after some consideration, the option of cancellation was disregarded. The event raises money for local charities.
Fr Kevin Morris, vicar of St Michael & All Angels Church, and Torin Douglas, director of the Chiswick Book Festival issued a joint statement saying, “This year’s Chiswick Book Festival is dedicated to the memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second and in thanksgiving for her life. It has been suggested we should find ways to bring people together in thoughtful reflection at this time. We believe our community-based Festival, in aid of reading charities - is an appropriate way to do this.
“Last night, we held a minute’s silence at our event at Chiswick House. There are condolence books in St Michael & All Angels Church. And we are holding an extra event on Sunday afternoon in which the religion commentator Catherine Pepinster will reflect on the Queen’s reign, as discussed in her new book: Defenders of the Faith: The British Monarchy, Religion and the next Coronation.”
The Chiswick Area Forum, which was due to be held next week is being postponed. Cllr Ron Mushiso says it will moved back to 8 November. Most council meetings over the next week have been cancelled including a planning meeting which was due to take place on Thursday, the day of the Queen’s death.
The Headliners Comedy Club, which holds events in the George IV, cancelled the Friday night event (9 September) but is planning to continue with the planned comedy evening on Saturday. Ticket holders for the Friday show have been advised to contact Wegottickets for a refund.
The Antiques and Vintage Market due to be held on Chiswick High Road on Sunday 11 September has been cancelled ‘at the direction of Hounslow Council’ according to the organiser’s web site.
Chiswick Library was closed this Saturday leading to the cancellation of the scheduled Storytime event. Ticket holders should have been informed and have been promised a refund.
The Great River Race that was due to pass through Chiswick along the Thames on Saturday was transformed into The Queen Elizabeth ll Memorial River Procession, from Millwall to Ham with crews advised to wear appropriate clothing rather than fancy dress and fly a small piece of black cloth from their ensign/flag. The event is no longer being time and will not be a race and participants have been instructed to proceed in silence.
The fixture between London Irish and Worcester Warriors was played on Saturday at the GTech Community Stadium with a minute's silence and the singing of God Save the King before the game but Brentford FC’s Premier League fixture away to Southampton has been postponed.

Chiswick artist residents Francis Bowyer and Liz Butler, were holding a fundraiser for the Royal Watercolour Society, at the new RWS Gallery in central London on Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 September but this event has now been cancelled.
