A rare opportunity to spend the evening in the company of one of our most illustrious musical directors will take place at St Paul's Church, Grove Park. An Evening with Mike Reed and Friends will be held on Saturday 23 November, when Mike will celebrate and reminisce on his life in the world of music, much of it in London's famed West End. Mike has conducted over 20 West End shows, including Phantom of the Opera, Barnum, Aspects of Love, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Singin’ in the Rain, Bat out of Hell and Sunset Boulevard in the London Coliseum production with He has been a guest conductor with most of the leading orchestras in the UK and is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio 2, conducting many of the BBC’s complete musical recordings including Guys and Dolls, A Little Night Music and Jesus Christ Superstar. Mike has been International Musical Supervisor for many of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals and conducted Lord Lloyd Webber's 50th Birthday Concert at the Albert Hall. The first half of the evening will feature Mike talking about his life while sitting at the piano, playing excerpts from the melodies that have been important to him. In the second half, he will be joined by some of his musical friends (both singers and other musicians) for an eclectic selection of pieces, classical and theatrical! A highlight is certain to be a magnificent performance on two pianos of Gershwin’s ever-popular Rhapsody in Blue. He will be joined by friends for this performance , including lead violinist and cellist Bea and Ben Chappell, and Robert Emery. Mike lived in Chiswick for many years and has directed many spectacular musical events at St Paul’s, including the sell-out concerts to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of WWI, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, A Hollywood Christmas and the premier of a brand-new musical about the life of St Paul. St Paul's say it is "beyond excited to have him back with us for this one-off performance." Tickets are available now from Eventbrite. Further details on the St Paul's website. Anne Flaherty
