Most local schools see improved pass rates and grades

Many local students have cause for celebration following the release of A level and GCSE results. Most local schools followed the national trend of seeing improved pass rates and grades.

At A Level Chiswick Community School saw an increase in the overall pass rate which rose to 95% from 93% but the percentage receiving top grades (A&B) fell from 43% to 38%.

For GCSEs there was a perfect pass rate but there was also a drop from the previous year with 38% getting A to C grades compared to 46% last year.

Headteacher Jonathan Bach said of the GCSEs, “These are good results reflecting the hard work of the students and their teachers. Some excellent results included students with seven A* and three As, eight A* and a B, and five A* and five A’s.”

The Green School had one student with who achieved three A grades at A Level and another who gained two As and a B and has won a place at Cambridge.

Gunnersbury Catholic School achieved a 98% pass rate at A Level with 72% achieving top three grades. For GCSE there was a 62% pass rate at grade A* to C.

Gumley House School had a very successful year at GCSE. Sister Brenda Wallace, Headteacher, said: “We are delighted that 82% of our girls achieved five or more passes at A* - C. Four of our most able girls achieved an incredible 32 A* passes between them.”

Emilie Roohan was in the top five in the country for GCSE passes in English Literature (AQA Exam Board). 373,834 students sat this exam and Emilie result was in the top five!

In the independent sector Westminster School topped the national league tables for A Level results with St. Paul's boys and girls schools both in the top ten. Latymer Upper school achieved record results with 87% of pupils getting As or Bs for their A levels. At Godolphin and Latymer the girls have obtained more Grade As than ever before (70.7%) and 88.8% of subjects were passed at either Grade A or Grade B. “They can be justly proud of the high quality of their achievements,” said the Head Mistress, Miss Margaret Rudland.
