Strand on the Green Junior School held its sports day in the sunshire last week to cap off a year of sporting success.

Earlier this year Strand Juniors were awarded the prestigious Association for Physical Education (AfPE) Quality Mark Distinction award one of only a handful of primary schools in London to achieve this designation.

As a result will be signposted by the Department of Education as a model of best practice. The award recognised the school’s passion for sport and the role it plays in helping children live happy, healthy lives. The AfPE report highlighted the school’s dynamic, evolving curriculum and its commitment to PE as an essential part of education.

This passion for sport was in evidence at the sports day, as the Chiswick School field was filled with children showing off skills in running, jumping and throwing across sixteen disciplines, culminating in the elite races and a fiercely competitive tug-of-war. The children displayed great commitment to setting personal bests and showed excellent teamwork, in front of a raucous crowd of proud parents.

Sports Day came at the end of a year in which the school hosted several competitions with other local schools, and travelled to over 25 competitions in the borough and beyond, involving not just those with a specific talent for sport, but those who have shown an enthusiasm for competing and representing the school.

Strand Juniors says it is committed to finding the passion in every one of their pupils, be it sport, music, art, coding, maths, writing or the environment.
