Chiswick School Artwork Adorns Empire House Hoardings | |
Lockdown project drawings are on the theme of community
Artwork by pupils at Chiswick School has recently appeared on the hoardings around the construction site around Empire House. The original idea for the display came from the developers, Great Marlborough Estates, who approached the school during lockdown. The company asked if the students would be able to create art to be printed on the wooden panels that protect the site. A meeting followed between the developer and the Arts Coordinator at the school, Tommy Robinson. A theme of community was agreed upon and then several talented artists got busy drawing up their ideas based on the brief. The students drew bikes and train stations, roads and parks. These drawings were then sent off to the designers who changed them so they would fit on the hoardings. Two students were picked by the developers as the winners and a presentation took place earlier in the year. Head teacher Laura Ellener said, “We have waited with baited breath to see them put up, and we are delighted that they are now in place. " The drawings feature on the perimeter of the huge construction site. Picture: Mike Abbott Mr Robinson added, “We did so many arts projects during lockdown. It is fantastic that these drawings are now up and the community can view them and the students are so happy that another piece of Chiswick has been decorated by their work.”
