After last week's revelation that there were to be increases in the meter and pay and display charges in the Chiswick area, it now emerges that car park charges in W4 are also to be doubled.

There are only two Council owned car parks in the Chiswick area. In the car park on Chiswick Common Road, behind Marks and Spencer's, it will now cost a pound per hour to park. If you wanted to park there for more than four hours the rate has now risen to £10.00. The new charges will come into operation on 27 June 2005. The rates will remain slightly below that for near by metered and pay and display parking spaces.

Chiswick Common Road (Marks and Spencer's)
  Old rate New Rate
Up to 1 hour 50p £1.00
Up to 2 hours 80p £2.00
Up to 3 hours £1.50 £3.00
Up to 4 hours £2.00 £4.00
Over 4 hours £4.00 £10.00

The rate for the car park at Bath Road, is being raised from £3.00 for up to 3 hours to £4.00.

The rates being charged for Chiswick car parks is significantly above Council owned car parks in the Hounslow and Feltham area. Although the latter are also seeing prices rise the typical hourly rate is 50-60p. However charges in Chiswick remain those in the nearby borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

The rise in parking charges in the area will in part be compensated for by an forthcoming decrease in resident permit charges which are to be reduced by £5.
