Hounslow Council's Attitude Over RingGo 'Crash' Annoys Councillor | |||||
John Todd says it is still unclear what will happen to locals who got tickets
The fallout from the RingGo 'cashless parking' system crash which affected London has continued with criticism of the way in which it was handled by local authorities. Chiswick councillor John Todd said that he was very disappointed that Hounslow Council did not issue any statement, as other boroughs did, to reassure residents that their wardens would not issue tickets. It is still unclear how many tickets were issued in Chiswick during the RingGo crash and whether penalties will be enforced. Ealing Council said at the time that they were not enforcing in the affected areas. But Hounslow Council said on the day that people were still able to pay by using the RingGo telephone number even if the website and App were not working. Cllr Todd said, "The alternative phone number provided failed too. The audacity of RingGo to suggest that because their equipment failed that people should appeal is breathtaking. I assume they may wish to recompense people who did get tickets." RingGo advised people who received PCNs to start the appeal process and said that while they could not intervene directly with envorcement We asked Hounslow Council what advice was given to traffic wardens about enforcement and whether any tickets issued would be cancelled- we still await a response. Southfield Lib Dem Councillor Andrew Steed said: " Residents in Southfield and in Hounslow have complained at how the two local Councils charge high fees for managing their parking provision (controlled parking zones and visitors' vouchers). Councillor Andrew Steed said: "Recent occasions where the contractor's IT systems have failed have left residents with parking fines. It seems very difficult to get these parking fines cancelled."
