A brief history of the pub and its theatrical links being researched
April 29, 2024 A local historian is asking customers of the Tabard Pub in Bedford Park for information about well known people who have frequented the pub over the years. Wesley Henderson-Roe is researching to write a brief history of the pub and its theatrical links for an article to be published in the Brentford & Chiswick Local History Journal for 2025 to which he has contributed in the past. It is believed that a huge number of prominent figures from the world of the performing arts will have visited since it opened in the late nineteenth century. Mr Henderson-Roe has already collated information about the subject. He says, "Of several famous regulars Bernard Cribbins is probably the best known . In addition he was often joined by John Collin (Z Cars) and Bryan Pringle. "Sir John Betjeman featured the pub in one of his many TV shows about London architecture in danger of being lost to developers. Sadly as of yet I have been unsuccessful in tracking down a copy or even a still from it. Any help gratefully received." He is particularly keen to hear from anyone who frequented the pub from the 1950s onwards who has stories or sightings of thespians enjoying a convivial beverage. If enough material can be gathered, he is considering expanding the article into an illustrated booklet on the pub and the theatre which will be celebrating its 40 anniversary in 2025. He is working with the theatre's owners, Simon and Sarah to create a historical archive from the theatre's humble beginnings in 1985.
