Popular local pub wins Fuller’s Griffin Trophy award
Chiswick's Fuller Smith and Turner P.L.C., has awarded their annual Griffin Trophy, which recognises the best pubs in the Fuller’s estate, to the High Road's George IV, managed by Jayson Perfect. The Griffin Trophy is awarded to the Fuller’s pub that most impressed the panel of judges for its appearance, quality of ales, food, atmosphere, commitment and enthusiasm. Fuller’s chief executive, Michael Turner, announced the winners at a presentation ceremony held last week at Fuller’s Griffin Brewery. The triumph caps a great year for the George IV, which has been a category winner in the Griffin Trophy for the last two years, and thoroughly deserves the pub of the year title. In addition to the overall Griffin Trophy, pubs are recognised in three other categories - Best Town/Local Pub, Best Country/Village Pub and Best City Pub. All the category winners receive a plaque to commemorate their achievement, a £1,000 holiday voucher and £200 cash for the pub staff. As the overall winner Jayson receives a plaque, £3,000 holiday voucher, £500 cash for the pub staff and the coveted Griffin Trophy itself. Presenting the award to Jayson, Michael Turner said “The George IV is an outstanding pub that is well loved and cared for by Jayson and his team. The pub attracts a wide range of people - in fact there are very few people in Chiswick who Jayson doesn’t know. “Jayson started at the George IV in January 2000 and since that date he has taken the pub from strength to strength. He is full of drive and enthusiasm and practically bursts with energy. Jayson has made excellent use of the comedy club so you will never be short of things to do, there is salsa dancing on Tuesdays, some of the countries top comedy acts at weekends, as well as all the big sporting matches that are on show throughout the year to name but a few of the events Jayson has on offer. “Jayson has built a strong team and made the pub one that Fuller’s is proud to own. If you live in West London, and have never visited the George IV, I strongly recommend you do. It offers something for everyone - great food, excellent beer, a fantastic wine selection, dancing, laughter, and the warmest of welcomes from Jayson and his team.” Adding to Michael’s comments, managing director of Fuller’s Inns, Simon Emeny, said: “The George IV is a fantastic pub, Jayson was only 21 years old when he was appointed manager and has proved to be a real star - we are absolutely delighted for him. Jayson is thrilled with his award and I am very proud of him. “With the acquisition of Gales last year, the estate now numbers 361 so Jayson is the cream of an expanded crop.” After accepting his award Jayson Perfect said “I am absolutely over the moon. I have won my category in the competition the past two years running and to finally be named the overall winner is such a great achievement for me and all my team who have helped me get here. I can’t wait to take the trophy back to the pub and share the good news with all my staff and customers.”
