Science Museum snaps up EleMental but we have one to give away!
Visitors to the London Toy Fair this year caught the first glimpse of an exciting new board game called EleMental™. Released in time for Christmas, EleMental is the brain child of local design duo Damian Fanshawe and Chris McCann, who firmly guided the game from Toy Fair prototype to Science Museum branded product over the past nine months. The game impressed the Science Museum so much that it has incorporated it into its own range of products and branded it ‘The very first board game from the Science Museum’ “I believe passionately that play unites minds and that there is a growing need for person-to-person play without being plugged in to consoles or PCs,” said McCann. “Becoming the first board game in the Science Museum’s range is a tremendous endorsement.” “Many people have commented on its striking look,” said Fanshawe. “But this is more than a just a good looking game, it’s a game that aims to improve levels of concentration and develop logical thinking skills in children. It’s also tremendously exciting without being violent – ‘whooaarr! without the war!’.” EleMental™ is described as combining the best elements of chess, draughts and backgammon and presenting them in a colourful, contemporary way that appeals to children and adults. “This universal appeal is vital,” said McCann. “The game involves dice, so there is an element of luck, as well as strategy and skill. It's easy to play but difficult to truly master and it's fun to speculate about who might come out on top when kids battle with parents on a board none of them have ever experienced before.” As well as the standard EleMental™ game, sold by the Science Museum at £20, a pocket dice version is available at £3.49, and a luxury edition, crafted from Corian – a substance renowned for its longevity, beauty and remarkable feel – is in development. “I believe in the evolution of games,” said McCann. “And this game is evolved from the game classics, so who knows, in time maybe EleMental™ could knock chess off its pedestal.” Ashleigh King, buyer for the Science Museum, said “We’re delighted to have EleMental as part of our licensed range at the Science Museum. We have a huge number of products, but this is our first board game so it’s an exciting venture for us.”
