There have been several reported sightings of a dolphin in the Thames near Chiswick this week.

River users have told of a small dolphin or possibly a porpoise following their boat.

Gavin Parsons, of the British Divers' Marine Life Rescue, was quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying, "They do come up the river, but it's extremely unusual for one to get this far."

Last year the nation was gripped by the plight of a whale which got lost up the Thames. Unfortunately the creature died before rescuers could return it to the sea. In 2003 a seal took up residence on the Thames and was often seen in the Chiswick areas. However, since then fish stocks were severely depleted by massive amounts of sewage being poured into the river following heavy rains.
