Hopes were raised that the smash and grab crime spree which has been afflicting local shops recently may be at an end.

After several incidents in which shops had been broken into by thieves often using bricks to break windows, an arrest has been made.

Inspector Ged Boyer of Chiswick police station told us, "following a recent spate of burglaries in Turnham Green Terrace, Police were called to suspects in a shop during the early hours of Saturday morning, a male and female were arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with further offences."

The shop, beauty therapist re-aqua, suffered damage but no money was taken. The man has pleaded guilty and will go to Crown Court for sentencing.

It is not known at this stage whether the arrests also relate to the damage caused on the Gap Store in Chiswick High Road earlier in the month.
