New
Conservation areas for Chiswick Approved Sustainable
Development Committee waves through plans for conservation areas in West Chiswick Two
new conservation areas are to be added in Chiswick with a third to be extended.
The Wellesley Road and Thorney Hedge Conservation Areas were given the go ahead
at the Hounslow Borough Sustainable Development Committee meeting on 31st October
as well as a proposed extension to Turnham Green Conservation Area. A
consultation on the issue saw overwhelming support for the conservation areas
with over 80% of residents in favour. The report presented to the committee gave
a strong recommendation for approval which was given after minimal discussion. The
change will mean stricter planning controls. Campaigners such as the West Chiswick
and Gunnersbury Society hope the change will strengthen their argument against
major planned office developments around Gunnersbury station. Antonia
Thompson of the Society said, "I am greatly impressed and happy over the
SDC's decision to say 'yes' to parts of West Chiswick becoming conservation areas
- they listened to the recommendations (brought together by the Conservation Officers
at Hounslow who worked hard on this case, studying the area and receiving information
from residents themselves) and observed that it was something that most of us
really wanted. This is a wonderful outcome and I'm glad to say that Hounslow Council
has 'seen us right' on this one." The
conservation areas come into effect immediately. Sign
