Customers Bid Fond Farewell to Burlington Cafe | |||||
As Eileen hangs up her apron after 11 years at Chiswick House
Loyal customers of the two and four legged variety bid a fond farewell to Burlington Café last night at a party hosted by its proprietor Eileen. The literally and metaphorically warm evening was attended by around 150 people, the majority of which were Chiswick residents. “Eileen has welcomed her customers along with their children and their dogs for more than 11 years providing home cooking with fresh ingredients together with a consistently replenished jar of biscuits for her four- legged friends! She will be missed by many.” Said Jayne Beaumont. “As we enjoyed the balmy air of Chiswick House grounds, one couldn't help but think why is the cafe being closed in the middle of the summer just when children are beginning their school holidays and even more people visit the park? Such a lack of community feeling!” She continued “I'm sure we'll be told yet again that this has to happen for the 'greater good' of the park and there will be refreshments temporarily available at the cricket pitch....but not just yet. And then the summer will be fading and this time without our dear friend, Eileen who has opened the doors of the cafe throughout the seasons for the loyal users of Chiswick House grounds. “It's the end of an era and with great sadness and fondness we bid Eileen 'adieu' and hope she'll return to resurrect the Burlington Cafe in the new building destined to open sometime in the not very near future.” July 29, 2008 |
