Chiswick-based actor Kevin McNally has told ChiswickW4.com that a case that led to his arrest in Los Angeles this February has been dismissed.

He was detained on 16 February ‘on suspicion of inflicting an injury that caused a traumatic condition on a victim who was his current or former spouse, cohabitant, or child’s parent.’ The LAPD issued a statement which only confirmed the arrest giving no details of any other individuals involved.

Mr McNally, who is best known for his role as Joshamee Gibbs in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, had been in the States to attend a Doctor Who fan convention. His wife, Phyllis Logan who appears in Downton Abbey, was not with him at the time and it was confirmed that any alleged offence did not involve her.

He was released on £40,000 bail and a court date was set for March, but no subsequent announcement was made by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office about the case. Mr McNally says that no individual made a complaint against him and the case was thrown out by the DA without a hearing with nature of the dismissal meaning that his arrest is ‘sealed’ and he will have no criminal record of any kind in the United States.

Mr McNally was confident that the matter was now closed even though he still was awaiting communication from his lawyer in LA to confirm the dismissal and the fact that he had no hearing or court appearance in the US. He has returned to the UK and believes that, what he describes as a very stressful few months for him and his wife, is now at an end.

We have contacted the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for comment.
