A London Air Ambulance helicopter landed in a busy park in Chiswick this Sunday (5 May) drawing a large crowd of onlookers.

It was dispatched to Acton Green after a person was taken unwell on St Alban’s Avenue at around 4.15pm.

A trauma team from the helicopter assisted during the incident but the patient was taken to a major trauma centre by ambulance after being treated at the scene.

As well as requesting the helicopter, London Ambulance Service sent ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.

The London Air Ambulance is a charity which relies on donations and currently needs to raise £15million by this September to replace its ageing fleet for which it is struggling to find spare parts meaning there are more and more days on which it cannot fly.

It has identified two Airbus H135 helicopters but without the arrival of these state-of-the-art new aircraft, the provision of a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service team in London could soon become impossible.
