Come In No. 94 - Your Time is Up! Bus enthusiasts expected to line the streets to bid farewell to a piece of history
This evening sees the final ever Routemaster’s journey from Acton to Piccadilly Circus. This evening,
Friday 23rd January at 19.30, the last ever Routemaster will leave from
the Acton Green terminus and make its way to Piccadilly Circus. While not every commuter will be terribly sad to see the old buses go, there still remains many enthusiasts and nostalgic folk who will want to turn out to bid farewell to a little part of omnibus history. In the last few days most of the Routemasters have been replaced one-by-one with the new Tridents although these have still been carrying conductors until this evening. The 94 route is already driver-only operated in late evenings and Sundays, but will be totally so from Sat 24th. The six Routemasters that are owned by TfL will be returned to them, however the other 18, which are owned by LU, will be sold off. January 23, 2004 |
