Devonshire Road Closed For Two Weeks | |||
Diversions in place along Duke Road / Glebe Street and Brackley Road
The one way section of Devonshire Road will be closed to traffic for two weeks from Monday 7th April to enable gas works to be completed. Traders were informed today (Friday 4th April) by letter from National Grid Gas that the road would be closed to traffic but that deliveries would still be allowed. Shopkeepers are already upset about the damage done to their businesses but this latest blow has left many angry and frustrated. The works, which began earlier than scheduled after the discovery of a gas leak on March 17th, are to replace a section of worn out cast iron gas main with new, long lasting, plastic pipe. However, according to reports from the front line, very little has been done since Morrisons, the contractor carrying out the works on behalf of National Grid Gas, dug a metre deep trench that runs the length of eleven shops. Dubbed 'disgraceful and dangerous' the trench has been left without any proper guards which some fear is 'an accident waiting to happen.' A spokesperson for Hounslow Council said, “We have requested additional signage and barriers around the trench with the contractor.” NB. Although closed to traffic, it's otherwise business as usual along Devonshire Road. April 4, 2008 |
