Fashion chain closing 19 stores across the UK and Ireland
Closing down signs have appeared in the windows of the GAP store on Chiswick High Road. The fashion chain has confirmed that it plans to close 19 stores in the UK and Ireland as part of a retrenchment of its European operations. It is believed that the Chiswick store will close when it lease expires shortly. The company announced a strategic review last October and closed 204 stores worldwide last year registering losses of £471million. The local store is at 260-262 Chiswick High Road. In 2016 the outlet was reduced in size when GAP gave up space in an adjacent property. Gap, Inc, is an American worldwide clothing and accessories retailer, founded in 1969 by Donald Fisher and Doris F Fisher and its headquarters are in San Francisco, California. It has over 2,000 stores worldwide, mainly in the United States and also owns Banana Republic and Old Navy and has a distinctive blue box logo with GAP in capital letters. We contacted GAP to confirm the closure of its Chiswick store but have not yet received a reply.
