What is an OCT?

An OCT allows us to take a deeper look at the health of the eyes. This is done by taking a non-contact scan of the back of the eye allowing our optometrist to analyse all the layers of the retina, detecting any abnormalities before they reach the surface - which is only possible with an OCT.

Maverick & Wolf's trained optometrists can analyse the eye in more detail with an OCT.   Any areas of the eye which appear unusual can be measured and monitored with additional scans over time in order to see if any changes are occurring in the eye.

Abnormalities or retinal damages shown by the OCT can be the sign of many common diseases such as Glaucoma, Diabetes and Age Related Macula Degeneration. It is vital for these signs to be detected as soon as possible as all can lead to visual impairment or even blindness if poorly managed and early detection usually allows better treatment options and a better visual outcome.
