Advent
Calendar comes to Turnham Green Terrace
Local
Shops to Display Fund Raising Art Work
Christmas
shoppers in Turnham Green Terrace can now enjoy an art exhibition
as they queue for presents or food. The 24 pictures from the Advent
Calendar in St Michael & All Angels church, Bedford Park,
have gone on display in the Terrace windows.
The
pictures - all created by local artists in support of St Michael's
Christmas Appeal - can also be seen in the church (where the originals
are displayed) and online at www.stmichaelschristmas.org
.
The original works will be sold through a silent auction, which
will close with a party in the church on Friday January 9th 2004.
The artists are generously donating at least a third of their
proceeds to the Appeal, in aid of four deserving charities at
home and overseas: the Upper Room project for the homeless in
Cobbold Road, Shepherds Bush; the Evangelical school in Ramallah,
Palestine; the Micro Loan Foundation, a Chiswick charity which
helps people in the Philippines and Malawi; and ACTS - Assist
a Child To School, an educational charity in Kenya.
"We're
delighted, and very grateful, that so many local artists have
offered their time and talents to our Advent Calendar & Christmas
Appeal" said Mother Nicola Stanley, curate at St Michael
& All Angels. "And we're also grateful to the businesses
in Turnham Green Terrace for letting us display the pictures to
their customers."
The traders displaying the pictures are: Faron
Sutaria, Fletcher
Estates, Snappy
Snaps, Melburys, Indigo
Delicafe, Jads newsagents, Fortuny, Bushells, Vintage Christmas,
Snapdragon, Macken Brothers, Something Nice, Oliver Bonas, Capricorn
Travel, Whitman & Co, Chiswick Cobblers, LA Menswear, Marmalade
Jewellery, Creations, Mortimer & Bennett, Tots, Barnard Marcus,
Tops Haircutters.
Indigo Delicafe is again raffling a panetonne - an Italian Christmas
cake - in aid of the St Michael's Appeal. Tickets cost £1
each and the draw will take place on Christmas Eve.
Carol singers from St Michaels raised £400 for the Appeal
on Wednesday evening outside Turnham Green tube station, and the
Appeal will also receive the collections from the Christmas services
at St Michael’s.
