As 2020 continues to upend plans and leave charities without the ability to run events crucial to fundraising, West London group Artists at Home has been able to adapt their usual way of showcasing work and in November will be doing so whilst raising money for local charity The Upper Room via an online auction.

This coming together is a real demonstration of the community spirit found across Chiswick, Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush. In these darkest of times, when many of us have been left wondering how we can help without the ability to do very much in person, this virtual event offers an excellent opportunity to support your local community.

Horton and Garton are incredibly proud to be supporting the online auction of West London artists and craft-makers work to raise funds for a local charity we're truly passionate about.

Bidding will begin Monday 16th November 2020, 10am (UK time) and closes Sunday 29th November 2020, 9pm (UK time). There are items at all price points offering bidders the ability to purchase unique Christmas gifts whilst supporting a very worthy local charity.

Read on to learn a little more about Artists at Home and The Upper Room.

Artists at Home

Established in 1973, the Artists at Home event has seen artists and craft-makers living in Chiswick, Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush welcoming members of the public into their homes and studios each year to view their paintings, ceramics, sculptures, printmaking, photographs, textiles, jewellery and glass-making.

It's a cherished local event where visitors are able to learn about new artists and craft-makers and an opportunity for the artists to sell their work, often to a new audience.

The event usually takes place in June but as with many plans for 2020 this had to change – this year the group ran the event virtually and it was a huge success.

Wanting to share their good fortune, the group are running an online auction event in November and will be supporting local charity, The Upper Room. Each of the artists are donating a percentage of the winning bid, with many generously choosing to donate 100% of proceeds.

The Upper Room

We've previously highlighted The Upper Room to W4 readers and as we enter the coldest months of the year the work they carry out providing hot meals, clothing and bedding to homeless and vulnerable is increasingly important.

Going beyond the basics in their support, The Upper Room works to provide those in need with the skills and tools they need to become self-sufficient. The award winning UR4Driving provides an opportunity to take driving lessons and gain a full UK driving licence which dramatically improves the chances of finding employment and boosts self-confidence. The charity also provides counselling and an employment support service.

A very special event

This very special event allows bidders to buy from local artists who have not been able to showcase their work at the usual events that are run through the festive season whilst also supporting the most vulnerable individuals in the community.

Though the property market has had to adapt and has not been totally unscathed by the coronavirus pandemic, we recognise that we are in a more fortunate position than other organisations. Horton and Garton are delighted to be able to facilitate such an event taking place via sponsorship and will continue to support local West London charities as often as possible.

As always, if I can be of any assistance with property related matters, I'm always happy to talk, without obligation, and offer professional guidance during these unprecedented times.
