Chiswick Look Ahead To The Rugby Season |
||||
Local team is determined to stay the course
Chiswick Rugby Club’s pre-season friendlies ended with a comprehensive ten-try demolition of a useful Dartfordians team, freshly promoted to London 2 South East. With two ubiquitous and demonic tacklers, Jon Gibson and Tom Adams, retiring, there was a chance for the many new faces to prove their worth before the first League fixture, against Sidcup, at Riverside Lands. Stewie Parmeter was returning to the club, and put in his usual full-hearted performance, as did all the newcomers. The lineouts were good, the scrums improved as the game wore on, and with Luca Vannini orchestrating the backs, things looked promising, with the high spot being the runs involving the rapidly-improving Dan Sutherland and the two wingers, George Dimitriadis and Rory McLaughlin. Dan Godfrey and James Bunbury provided a solid mid-field pairing. Mike Fatsis stood out in the forwards, with Marc Copperwheat especially notable in the lineouts. The amazing Marco Chraplewczyk looked fitter than ever, and stayed on the pitch throughout. With several league teams, a thriving Vets team, who hammered London Irish Vets last season, and a thriving Minis group, Chiswick look set for an interesting season. A lot of clubs go up into London 1 and come straight down again. Chiswick are determined that they will stay the course
