Old Meads shore up below par performance with semi-final victory London Old Boys Senior Cup Semi-Final - Old Meadonians 4 Wood Green Old Boys 0
Old Meadonians completed the first leg of their efforts to shore up their below par league campaign by easing into the final of the London Old Boys cup at the expense of a poor Wood Green Old Boys’ side which is struggling in the division below them.
However, the fire power came from versatile centre back Alex Hugh Jones who moved into midfield and scored a scintillating hat-trick to bring his personal purple patch total to five in three matches, seven for the season. Meads’ first goal came on ten minutes as fellow centre back Alastair McCombe, himself no slouch with three this season, headed in a corner at the far post. The visitors were then penned in for the next fifteen minutes when Hugh Jones climbed above a leaden defence to head in Hawkins’ free kick. There was then a comparative drought as Wood Green survived more punishment until midway through the second half when Hugh Jones struck at the far post once more, this time on the end of a Ryan Russell cross. Hugh Jones completed his hatful from the spot, following a last minute handball in the area and walked away with the MoM award.
