Resounding end to a six week programme of friendlies
Old Meadonians have timed the preparations for the start of their season this coming Saturday to perfection with a resounding end to a six week programme of friendlies concluding with a second club challenge, this time against ten sides from Polytechnic of the Southern Amateur League who provided the best competition to prove the worth of this method of spicing up friendlies. Meads won five and lost three with two being drawn. By far the most important of their wins was that of the reserves, by 5-1, with the 3rd team coming next in line because this is where emerging talent is expected to come from. The 1st team’s 5-2 victory was down to their ability to take advantage of flagging legs as Poly ones had to use a handful of players who had done ninety minutes when kicking off early with their reserves. Consequently, Poly held their own to be 2-2 at halftime but, while not being run ragged, were less than effective during the second period. September 6, 2016 |
