Amateur Football Combination Premier Division- Old Salvatorians 0 Old Meadonians 4
Old Meadonians’ players rewarded joint Manager/coaches, Luke Graham and Ali McCombe for their excellent debut season by following pre-match instructions to finish on a high note and send out a message for next September onwards. With the league title already decided, in what could have been a damp squib of a game, Meads mastered lowly Old Salvatorians in their new hideout in deepest Bushey, Hertfordsire to such an extent that the hosts didn’t have a single chance. This match gave the hardy souls who had made the trek the reward of seeing Lawrie Pointer make his first start of the season after injury had kept him out of action all season, with Jordan Mace coming in for injured Jake Gowers and Matt Britner in at left back. Meads’ solid defence provided the confidence for an all action five man attack to take an early grip which wore down Salvos before Meads’ took the lead on the half hour with a Ryan Bright penalty after he’d been brought down in the area. Ed Glover put the finishing touch to Craig Jones’ cross from the right five minutes later. The second half saw more of the same with Nick Wilson running Salvos ragged down the right and providing a cross for John Shea to volley in at the far post. The route was completed with ten minutes to go when Wilson’s cross field pass found the lurking Jones for him to cut across the edge of the area from the left and curl his shot in off the far post. Craig Jones shaded Nick Wilson to the MoM award.
