Old Minchendenians 4 Old Meadonians 1 Meads taught a footballing lesson at Southgate
Amateur Football Combination Premier Division Even before the hosts opened their account with an up and over on the half hour the visitors had lost the initiative when they’d missed the first of a series of chances provided by Jack Costello corners which were to continue to be their most likely means of getting back into the game but were sandwiched throughout by the hosts’ more fruitful efforts. Minches first was a gift to their striker who galloped through the wide open stable door to round Robinson and this was almost immediately followed by another Costello corner put narrowly wide by Ed Glover. The hosts got their second ten minutes after the restart, courtesy of a misdirected ball in mid-field which wrong footed the defence. Ten minutes later sub Ali McCombe connected sublimely with another Costello driven corner to head Meads back into contention and give hopes of a come-back. Meads then put on ten minutes of pressure to reveal Minches raw side as the hosts sustained three bookings but this mini-revival was quickly doused when lack of options on offer in mid-field led to robbery and get-away for Minches’ third. The hosts wrapped it up with a break and tap in with five minutes to go, leaving the visitors licking their deserved wounds. September 27, 2011 |
