PHC Chiswick played their first game in the South Premier League Division 2 after being promoted the previous season and had a tough away game at Tulse Hill & Dulwich to start the season.

Tulse Hill, who themselves were related from the South Prem Division 1, started nervously and it was Chiswick who created the better chances and retained much of the possession but were unable to score with the home team’s keeper making a number of fine saves.

Despite Chiswick being on top for long periods it was the home team who took the lead scoring on the break as Chiswick were pressing forward to score. Chiswick came back strongly from this early setback and had chances to level through Dharmesh Puna, Ashley Holman and Nayan Makan before Matt Dobbs scored a superb individual goal beating 4 players and slotting the ball home from close range to level the scores at half time.

After the break it was Chiswick who again came out the stronger and despite numerous short corners and shots couldn’t find away through the stubborn Tulse hill defence until Ashley Holman latched onto a loose ball in the D to score from close range to put Chiswick 2-1 up and in a good position to finish the game well. With 10 minutes to go and Chiswick looking the stronger team Tulse hill scored the equaliser and with 5 minutes left scored the winner while the Chiswick defence were caught on the back foot following the award of a free hit.

Despite the loss Chiswick were far the better team and were unlucky to come away with nothing but this will be a good lesson in maintaining concentration for a full match and better it was learnt early on in the season. Chiswick will go into the home game next week in good spirits and have a local derby against Barnes to look forward to.
