Hockey result : PHC Chiswick 4 : Newbury & Thatcham 1
Saturday 3rd October saw PHC Chiswick’s 1st IX first league of the season where they entertained newly promoted Newbury & Thatcham at their home ground at Linford Christie Stadium, White City. Chiswick started nervously and dominated the first half but failed to capitalise on a number of gilt edged chances with Mitch Jamieson, Nayan Makan and Dan Hall all going close before Makan finally broke the deadlock after a fine move down the right hand side of the pitch involving Thomas Lemaire and Dan Hall. Chiswick then kept up the pressure on the Newbury defence and the second goal came soon after with new signing Dan Loman scoring a fine individual goal and his first for Chiswick. Dan Hall finished off a good passing move shortly before half time which saw Chiswick go into the break 3-0 up. Chiswick again came out after half time playing some good flowing hockey and could have added to the scoreline but for some poor finishing in front of goal before Mitch Jamieson scored Chiswick’s 4th goal before conceding a late consolation goal towards the end of the game. The scoreline should have been greater but for some poor finishing at one end. Some excellent defending by Dharmesh Puna and Chris Hovington in defence kept the visitors down to the single goal. Player/coach, Chris Hovington, commented, “This was a good team display for the first league game of the season with the team adapting well to a new formation and the new players integrating well into the attacking style of hockey Chiswick are looking to play. This bodes well for some tough games coming up against BA, Staines and Sonning in the next few weeks”. October 5, 2009
