Police are investigating an incident where graffiti was painted outside new cafe Shafran in Sutton Court Road.

Owner Mikayil Hasani said that the graffiti was painted on, rather than sprayed, in the early hours of Thursday morning, around 3.30 a.m.

CCTV had captured images of a motorcyclist who drove his cycle onto the pavement outside the cafe, then parked the cycle on the opposite side of the road, and calmly walked across to target an exterior wall of the premises.

The cafe/gourmet shop run by a husband and wife team, opened three months ago at Sutton Court Road, in the premises formerly run by Badger & Earl.

He said the graffiti appeared to be a word or a tag, with the letters SKER. He believes the cafe was deliberately targeted.

"Why did he chose this particular area for graffiti- there are other areas which would have given greater visibility for graffiti, such as the brick wall opposite. This premises was closed for several months and there was no graffiti so why now?"

Hounslow Highways have been alerted and have promised to remove the graffiti.

Mr. Hasani said he heard that similar graffiti tags had appeared in Brentford and Isleworth but it was still a mystery why his business had been a target.

Police have been to the cafe and are investigating.
