The People's Supermarket was named Local Retailer of the Year at Observer’s Ethical Awards 2011.  Held at the Victoria and Albert Museum, The People’s Supermarket founder Arthur Potts Dawson was presented with his accolade by Colin Firth, an apt link considering the awards, which are now in their sixth year, have been dubbed the ‘Green Oscars’.

Well known for his ethical and environmentally friendly views, Firth was joined on the judging panel by wife Livia Firth as well as Ant and Dec idol Brian Cox, Lily Cole, Ben Fogle and Lucy Siegle.

Recently featured on a Channel 4 documentary, the People's Supermarket aims to be a sustainable food cooperative providing healthy food at reasonable prices.

From running his own restaurant, Arthur Potts Dawson is more than familiar with waste - the resulting cost that's passed onto producers and customers alike, and the high price that's paid by the environment.

Armed with the knowledge that British supermarkets bin over 1,000 tonnes of food a day, Arthur set about starting an independent no-waste supermarket.

Arthur will be in Chiswick this July to host a charity one-night only pop-up restaurant in aid of The Upper Room www.theupperroom.org.uk.

The event will mark the finale of SavourCHISWICK, a 10 day celebration of Chiswick’s unique foodie economy.

Arthur has created a menu using produce sourced from Turnham Green Terrace’s gourmet retailers Macken Bros, Covent Garden Fishmongers, Mortimer & Bennett, Theobroma Cacao and Andreas Fine Fruit & Vegetables.

Guests will arrive from 6:30pm to the sound of jazz and be greeted with champagne and canapés before enjoying a unique, seasonal feast from 7:30pm.

The menu comprises a starter of Golden Beetroot Salad with Prosciutto, Fresh Ricotta & Aged Balsamic, followed by Slow-Roasted New Season Berkshire Dales Shoulder of Lamb with Heritage Tomatoes, Mint, Violette Artichokes & New Potatoes, with a Flourless Chocolate Cake with Ginger Sorbet and Strawberries for dessert.

Coffee, digestifs and chocolate treats are also included in the £60 per head ticket price, as is a half bottle of wine per person.
