The Women's rowing Team from locally-based University Boat Club has won a national championship for the first time in the club's history.

Victorious rowers from the University Boat Club won five Gold, three Silver, six Bronze and the Women's Team Trophy at last week's British University Rowing Championships, known as BUCS Regatta.

ULBC left BUCS Regatta 2016 with a total of 14 medals and the Women’s Team Trophy after three days of racing in often challenging conditions.

The UL Women’s 1st Eight raced to a Bronze medal in the Championship Eights final, a first ever medal in this event for ULBC, pushing Cambridge University to the line. This was a first Openweight Championship medal for a UL Women’s crew in five years but success in the Eight was then quickly followed by a Gold in the Coxed Four ahead of Newcastle and Oxford Brookes, a Silver in the Coxless four and Quadruple scull and finally Bronze in the Double scull. This unprecedented success in the Championship events coupled with medals in the Intermediate events saw the women crowned Women’s Team Champions for the first time.

The club also won gold in the Lightweight Men's pair, with two athletes who live in Chiswick!
