Rumours of closure devastate Chiswick diners
Reports are circulating amidst the Chiswick online population that Balans on Chiswick High Road has closed. Speculation is rife on both Twitter and the ChiswickW4 Forum that the popular "New-York style" restaurant has shut its doors for the last time, leaving local residents to lament the end of their ever popular 'Cocktail Happy Hour' and famous Brunch menu. The Chiswick branch of the Balans chain opened in Summer 2005, taking over the site from the Jack Stamps pub, and has been a popular stalwart of the Chiswick dining scene ever since. There has been much distress shown over its closing down and although there has been no confirmed statement from the company itself as yet, the Chiswick Branch page has been removed from the Balans website and staff members have described the maintenance men coming in to take away the chairs and tables. We have asked Balans head office for an update but have yet to receive a reply. The Balans' front courtyard was deserted today, with only their trademark umbrella left to sway in the wind. If this is really the end for Balans, it will be a sad day for all Chiswick diners. The Balans' tables and chairs stacked up, perhaps for the last time. Photo: Ian Wylie
