Patisserie Valerie Cafe Appears Set For Reprieve |

The coffee shop is planning to stay on Chiswick High Road
The Patisserie Valerie cafe on Chiswick High Road looks as if it is set for a reprieve. We reported last week that staff at the local branch had been told the cafe was closing. A 'To Let' sign had been placed outside. On Monday, there was a turnaround in events when the company said the cafe would remain open. A spokesperson for head office told chiswickw4.com they were now renegotiating a new lease with the landlord. Staff told us there had been a good deal of support from local people when they heard that closure was planned. The chain specialises in hand-made cakes, and its menu includes continental breakfasts, lunches and teas and coffees. It also specialised in gelato and confectionary. The company has continued to open stores recently in Belfast, Huddersfield and Middlesborough amongst others, as well as a store in the Debenhams in White city's Westfield Shopping Centre. The nearest similar cafe is in Hammersmith. The chain has over 115 outlets across the UK and Ireland. The first Patisserie Valerie store was opened in Frith Street in Soho in 1926 by a Belgian woman, Madame Valerie whose efforts to bring continental patisserie to the UK were a great success. Patisserie Valerie is part of the Patisserie Holdings group. The group operates under five different brand names: Patisserie Valerie, Druckers Vienna Patisserie, Philpotts Ltd, Baker and Spice and Flour Power City Bakery. There are about 80 shops in the UK and the company employs over 2,500 staff. January 27, 2017 |
