Local rower named as Olympic hope in single scull event
Local rower, Alan Campbell has been named as the British hope for the single scull event in the forthcoming Olympics. Campbell, who is based in Chiswick’s Tideway Scullers Club in Dukes Meadows, will travel to Beijing with the rest of the British rowing squad to compete against the world’s finest. He is bidding to become the first Briton for 84 years to win Olympic gold in the single. Although he has use of the £13m Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake near Reading to train on, Campbell can still regularly be seen on the River Thames. Perhaps something a little more interesting to spot than birds for some?
