'New' owners planning to reopen both pubs soon

Two Chiswick pubs, which it was feared were closed for good during pandemic, look set to make a return under 'new' ownership.

The Roebuck and the Steam Packet shut this March after the Food and Fuel group went into administration. In 2018 the group of London pubs had been acquired by Brunning and Price, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Restaurant Group. Now Brunning and Price is to reacquire the leases of the two Chiswick pubs from the administrator.

The Steam Packet wasn’t part of the 2018 acquisition but was launched within the Food and Fuel company the following year. It had only been operating a matter of months after an expensive refit of the Café Rouge site on Strand-on-the-Green when it was forced to close.

A spokesperson for Brunning and Price said, “It’s been a testing 6 months shut down at the Steam Packet and we’re very much looking forward to getting back open and welcoming everyone to our lovely pub!”

All being well they plan to relaunch on the evening of Friday 31 July.

The Roebuck took over its site on Chiswick High Road from the Birdcage in 2006 having formerly been the Antelope. It was popular with locals particularly in the summer with its attractive beer garden. They now plan to open once some formalities with the lease have been resolved which they hope will take place in the next couple of weeks.

Both pubs promise a new summer menu with head chef Vincy at the Steam Packet and James at the Roebuck working hard finalise it.
