Ciaran Hinds, who was nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA last year, is urging people to pay a visit to Bedford Park in a new video.

He says, “Let me show you a hidden London Gem that is not only architecturally fascinating, but that also fostered one of English literature’s geniuses.”

Launched to promote the Discover Bedford Park app, it is the latest act of support from the star, who has appeared in Game of Thrones and the film Belfast, for the local project organised by Cahal Dallat to highlight the cultural and architectural significance of the area.

In it he explains the background of the area, particularly its association with W B Yeats and his family highlighting how the area represented the ‘pavements grey’ in the Lake Isle of Inishfree. He introduces the recently added sculpture, Enwrought Light, the unveiling of which he attended, and gives instructions on how you can use the QR code on the information sign nearby to access the Discover Bedford Park app to get information on walking tours of sites in the area of cultural interest.

Ciaran Hinds, explains the history of the area in the video produced by Chiswick Buzz, outlining how it was the first ever garden suburb and quickly became a home for creative people. He continues, “Today that creativity is more alive than ever, in the homes of writers and artists, in the Yeatses family church, at the local theatre, in schools and colleges and in the area’s open green spaces, all right next to the vibrant shops-and-café district of Turnham Green Terrace.”

The app directs you to a point which demonstrates how the area influenced Yeats and his work and each stop concludes with a short reading from one of his poems.

The voiceover concludes, “So Bedford Park isn’t simply a delightful place to visit, but an important part of our cultural heritage and a fascinating explore for visitors and poetry lovers.”

This year will see a series of events marking the centenary of W B Yeats winning the Nobel Prize which is likely to further boost interest in his association with the area.

There are two crowdfunder websites, Celebrate poet WB Yeats in Bedford Park and Discover Bedford Park with poet WB Yeats, which list the supporters of the project.
