A street party has been planned for next month at Turnham Green Terrace to mark the general upgrading of the area, including new seating, a forthcoming art installation and the restoration of the drinking fountain.

The party will take place on 15 September from 11am-4pm and all are welcome.

The official launch of the Piazza and the Fountain will take place at 1 pm.

There will be road closures and diversions in place during the party.

The organisers have promised lots of fun for the local community, with live music, and food provided by cafes and restaurants for the Big Street Lunch. There will be free cookery demonstrations from the Chiswick Cookbook Festival, and art, gardening, and yoga workshops. A vintage bus will also be on site.

The restoration of the drinking fountain, a project led by local councillor John Todd, is almost complete. The fountain was taken away to be repaired, polished and given a new lid while the plumbing that supplies it is modernised. The makeover is being supported by the Heritage of London Trust.

The project is a collaboration between Friends of Chiswick Back Common and Abundance London, and local resident Steve Nutt, and recently saw stylish new benches installed in the area around the fountain. The project aims to reclaim a neglected public space within Chiswick Back Common, but also provide an oasis of biodiversity for bees and other insects.

Section 106 funding has been secured to move the project forward.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
