Local landmark being polished and repaired
Chiswick residents perturbed by the disappearance of the fountain just off Turnham Green Terrace have been reassured that it is to return to its rightful place very soon. As part of a project that has been led by local councillor John Todd, it has been taken away to be repaired, polished and given a new lid while the plumbing that supplies it is modernised. Cllr Todd says it will return in two weeks or possibly more depending on progress. The makeover is being supported by the Heritage of London Trust. The renovation of the fountain is part of a broader project to create a piazza style open space at this spot close to Turnham Green bridge. The project is a collaboration between Friends of Chiswick Back Common and Abundance London and recently saw stylish new benches installed in the area around the fountain. The project aims to reclaim a neglected public space within Chiswick Back Common, but also provide an oasis of biodiversity for bees and other insects. Section 106 funding has been secured to move the project forward. All future donations and offers of volunteering are welcome says Karen Liebreich of Abundance.
