Concerns Over 'Tree Vandalism' In Chiswick |

Local resident says felled branches could only have been done deliberately
A local resident is worried that incidents of tree vandalism are on the increase. He writes, 'You may recall some time ago that trees in the Chiswick area were subject to being deliberately damaged. In a number of cases mercury was injected into a trunk in order to kill off trees. 'This spate of vandalism has not reoccurred for some time but in the last three months several trees (mostly young trees that cannot recover) have been damaged. I attach a picture of a young tree in Binns Road. The damage could only have been caused by somebody pulling down the branch until it broke. I believe we may now have a new ‘outbreak’ of vandalism against trees.' The resident has sent us pictures of of damage caused on the night of the 8/9 May. He says ' It is clear that somebody or is going ‘armed’ with a ladder as the branch felled was too high to have been removed by hand. This points to a calculated and researched approach to this vandalism.' He said he is filing a report to the police and wishes to warn local people that there may be a spate of vandalism which may be linked to extensive vandalism caused some years ago. Has anyone else come across similar incidents? Email editor@chiswickw4.com.
