Super Saturday Of Sport Is Cancelled |
Organiser of the free local event blames lack of sponsorship Clare Balding gets into the spirit of things in 2016 Pictures by Kelly Reeves The annual Chiswick Super Saturday of Sport will not go ahead this year in July, organiser Kirsten Lonsdale has confirmed. The event had been trailed on their Facebook Page for July 7th, with the Ghost Dance Troupe expected to perform and a family fun-run. Kirsten , who set up the event five years ago, said her decision was mainly due to lack of sponsorship for the event which has attracted hundreds of people to Turnham Green for a day trying out different sports for free. In a statement today she said: "It is with an extremely heavy heart that I have taken the decision to cancel Super Saturday of Sport in Chiswick on July 7. "After 5 years of fantastic events on Turnham Green and my annual battle to attract enough sponsorship to cover the costs of the day – this year feels like one year too many. "I have been working since October to secure enough sponsorship to create another free family day for the community but I am not close enough to feel confident that it can go ahead without significant personal cost to my family. "Founding and organising Super Saturday in 2013 will always be one of my proudest achievements. "Thank you so much for your support, it has meant an incredible amount to me."
