This year’s Southfield Primary School’s Sunflower Fete will be held on Turnham Green on Saturday 22 nd June 2013 from 11am to 4pm - sponsored by Orchards of London Estate Agents.

This year the theme for the children’s fancy dress parade which is always a highlight of the fete is ‘The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ and there will be a prize for the best hat and outfit judged by a special guest.

Fete Attractions will include: a bungee trampoline and bouncy castle. Little ones will enjoy the face painting and other activities in the Children’s Craft Corner or try their hand at traditional games such as hook-a-duck while older children will love the football tournament, beat the goalie and old favourites such as the coconut shy – there’s something to amuse all ages.

To bag a bargain, pay a visit to a variety of stalls selling everything from second hand books to plants, flowers, toys and bric-a-brac and do not miss out on the opportunity to participate in the Tombola to win some fantastic prizes.

With a great selection of food and snacks on offer with tea and light refreshments, you can indulge your taste buds at the Sunflower Cafe, the Wyndham House barbeque , the Pimms Tent or try a selection of an eclectic mix of food from around the world from the International Food Stall - courtesy of the culinary skills of the school’s parents, while you enjoy the music from the jazz quartet.

The Sunflower fete is organised by The SPSA (Southfield Parent Staff Association - registered charity 1015206) which works hard to raise funds for projects and much needed resources that enhance the children’s experience at school.

Some of the projects that have been funded in the past include: Equipment for the ICT suite, Sports equipment, Musical Instruments, Shelters for Foundation Years, The Sensory Garden, Plants for the school playground, The Centenary Tower, Infrastructure refurbishments, Reading Books, Art Projects, Theatre visits, Prizes for ‘Prize day’ and Sports day medals.

With the support of local businesses who have continued to contribute to the event through sponsorship and generous donations, last year’s summer fundraising activities raised £10,000 for music activities, art projects and playground refurbishment including maintenance of the nature area, the sensory garden and other green areas. It is hoped that this year’s activities may even raise funds in excess of last year’s for the enhancement of the sensory garden and playground equipment for Key Stage1 children.

Mr Simon Prebble, Head teacher at Southfield Primary School says, “The Sunflower Fete is a much anticipated date on the school calendar. It’s a day when the whole school as well as the wider community can join together to help raise money for various school projects. First and foremost it is a lot of fun, it’s a great family day out and there is something for everyone”
