Southfield ward Councillors are campaigning to save the Carlton Road Day Centre, a day-service to support adults with learning disabilities which has been placed on Ealing Council’s hit list of properties to sell.

Councillor Gary Busuttil, supported by his Lib-Dem colleagues in Southfield, has now set up a petition calling on the Council to keep it open.

Closure would mean that the users, many of whom are profoundly disabled, would need to find alternative caring provision, the councillors argue.

The Liberal Democrats say they have previously found ways for the Council to avoid having to close day centres and one of their main campaigning issues in the local election manifesto is “cut costs not services“.

Local resident and Liberal Democrat candidate Busuttil, who has taken a leading role in the campaign to save Carlton Road, said: “The Liberal Democrats believe that Ealing Council needs to protect the vulnerable, not shut more day centres. How many more will Labour close?
Elderly residents and the disabled need our support. That is why we set up the petition. Please sign to show your support.”

If you agree that the Carlton Day Centre is a service which should not be cut by Ealing Council to save on costs, you can sign the petition here.
