Filmmaker Robin Bextor has joined Change UK party
Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor's father is aiming for a career in politics. Award winning television and film producer/director Robin Bextor, who has made programmes on top stars such as Paul Mc Cartney and Eric Clapton, has joined Change UK, the pro-Europe 'Remain' alliance. He has been selected to stand for the party in the South East Region (East Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey etc) in the forthcoming European Elections. Robin Bextor is originally from the Hammersmith area and was educated in Sheen. He has been based in the East Sussex area for many years. Sophie is the daughter of his marriage to former Blue Peter presenter-turned -author Janet Ellis. Her parents separated when she was four. He remarried and has three more children. Change UK has launched its campaign for the European Parliamentary elections (23 May), with 70 candidates. The latest Brexit delay means the UK may have to take part in the elections.
Sophie, who celebrated her 40th birthday this month, hasn't publicly given her opinion on her father's prospective political career but she did recently retweet the Petition To Revoke Article 50 and Remain in the EU. The party- formerly known as The Independent Group- is made up of 11 MPs who left Labour and the Tories. They have been joined by people with no previous political history, including BBC presenter Gavin Esler, and Rachel Johnson, sister of Boris Johnson. She is a former Lib Dem supporter. Last month the group applied to become a political party with the name Change UK and was granted approval this month, which allows them to field candidates in the European Elections. They have selected about 70 candidates from 3,700 applicants.
