Pictures will boost the church's Christmas charity appeal
Twenty-four children from the Children’s and Youth Church at St Michael & All Angels, Bedford Park, have created a special Advent Calendar to help promote the church’s annual Christmas Charity Appeal. They’ve each drawn or painted a picture which can be seen in the Church and on the internet Angel by Rose Whelan, age 9 On the Advent Calendar website, visitors can see 24 revolving stars. When they pass the cursor over a star, a number appears and if it is that day’s date a click on the mouse will open the picture. If you click too soon, you’re told you have to wait! The pictures are also displayed, behind numbered doors, in the Church on a beautiful 5-foot-high frame, created by local artists. Each day from December 1st to the 24th, a new door will be opened. Father Kevin Morris, the vicar of St Michael’s, says “I hope everyone will enjoy our 2014 Advent Calendar, both online and in the church. As well as acting as a focus for our worship in the run-up to Christmas, we think this is a wonderful way to celebrate the season and to publicise our annual Christmas Charity Appeal.” Nativity by Alexandra Duckworth, age 11 This year's Appeal is raising money for three charities: The Upper Room, feeding the community in need in West London; Hamlin Fistula UK, a medical charity helping women in Ethiopia; and The Mulberry Centre in Isleworth, offering support to anyone affected by cancer. The Appeal will also receive collections from two of the four main Christmas services at St Michael’s: the Nine Lessons and Carols service at 6.30pm on Sunday December 14th and the Children’s Crib Service at 4pm on Christmas Eve. There will be carol singing for the Appeal at Turnham Green tube station on Wednesday December 17th, and people can also donate money in the green Advent jar in church or by cheque. November 29, 2014
