Funeral Of Sir Humphrey Maud

The former diplomat died recently, aged 79

The funeral will take place on Monday (Nov 18) of Sir Humphrey Maud, KCMG, at St. Michael and All Angels Church at 7pm. All are welcome to attend.

Sir Humphrey, who died on November 10th aged 79, was a former British Ambassador to Argentina in the wake of the Falklands War, and a lifelong friend of the composer Benjamin Britten.

Other diplomatic postings in his thirty-four year long career included Cuba, Luxembourg and Spain. He spent six years serving as Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, and was particularly involved in trying to help developing countries who were struggling with debt. He was also involved in establishing the Iwokrama Rainforest project in South America.

He was appointed KCMG in 1993.

He was a keen music lover, a talented cellist and a supporter of the Chiswick Musequality charity which supports communal music-making for disadvantaged children in developing countries.

He was a Trustee/Director of the Royal College of Music, The Orchestra of St John's Smith Square and the Parkhouse Chamber Music Award.

Sir Humphrey featured in the Bedford Park Festival last June during a celebration of the centenary of Benjamin Britten's birth, when he was interviewed by festival director Torin Douglas about the composer.

Sir Humphrey is survived by his wife, Maria Eugenia Gazitua and three sons.

A service of Remembrance will take place at a later date.
