Calls For Removal Of Signpost Blocking Pavement |

New sign on Turnham Green Terrace leaves little room for pedestrians
A new traffic signpost in Turnham Green Terrace has been criticised as an obstruction to pedestrians and those with wheelchairs or buggies, as it has been placed in the middle of the pavement. Hounslow Highways erected the double posted sign on a section of pavement that is just 3 metres wide, leaving a gap of barely 1.5m to one side, and 1.0m between the two posts. A local reader who drew attention to the sign said; "One of the posts is slap bang in the middle of the pavement, a clear obstruction and frustration to pedestrians, wheelchair users, parents with buggies, etc, as well as being a safety risk to anyone not looking where they are going. Injury accidents are merely a matter of time." He said he believed it was an inappropriate and thoughtless positioning of a traffic sign and should be removed to a more appropriate spot. Councillor John Todd said he would raise the matter with the Head of Transport at Hounslow Council without delay. February 28, 2019 |
