Strand On The Green Infant & Nursery School held their 14th annual Scoot to School Day on Tuesday 2nd October 2018.

As part of the School Travel Plan the school encourages walking, scootering and cycling as healthy and sustainable ways to travel to school and as an alternative to the car.

All children took part in a scooter proficiency test in the playground and they practiced stopping safely, negotiating routes and had a chance to show off a few tricks too! Our children were delighted with their certificates at the end of the day.

There was also a strong emphasis on safety and showing respect for other pedestrians.

An Idling Action (anti vehicle engine idling) event will take place on Monday 8 October at Strand-On-The-Green Infant and Junior schools.

A special assembly on air quality for the infants and the junior school children, will take place, followed by a training session for volunteers at 2.15pm. The volunteers will then be on the street in time for the end of the school day, talking to parents arriving to collect their kids and encouraging idling drivers to switch off. This is to combat air pollution from engines.

They are currently recruiting a team of enthusiastic volunteers who want to be part of this innovative education and behaviour change campaign to reduce localised air pollution and improve air quality in their residential and workplace community.
